Area51

If you own a website, you should have the subdomain area51.domain.com. Why? To keep information secret yet public at the same time. This may seem pointless, but it can come in handy. Imagine

  • Checking out the subdomain area51.* for every domain you like/visit. If they have that, then you’ve got something in common.
  • Using it to secretly gain access to what the webmasters think is hidden from the public.
  • Having the area51 subdomain, and letting your visitors think they gained access to what they think you think is hidden from them, but you know it’s not.
  • Showing off cool products.
  • Showing off new projects, such as the CSS Reboot layout.

Hahaha, nice idea! I added one on sugardeath.net. I kind of stole your idea and am testing a new design there. It’s very nice being able to keep all the files separate from the main domain and wordpress. Just had to include a wordpress file and symlink the wordpress directory and it works perfectly!
