I’ve always thought Mac OSX would run on my PC first before Windows runs on a Mac. I was way off.
- First individual system hackers made a howto for installing Windows XP on a Macintosh.
- Then, Apple, the maker of Macs, released the beta program Boot Camp to dual boot Windows and OSX.
- And now this company releases a virtual machine for running Windows on OSX.
I am really disappointed in the hackers who are trying to port OSX to PC. Sure, get a Mac, it’ll solve everything. But having Mac hardware means no CPU upgrades, less compatibility with external hardware, and a white box, which doesn’t look good with my furniture.
Hey! I downloaded OSX for pc on bittorrent, but didn’t try it out yet. Have you heard anything about that?
Yes. 19 out of 20 times it will not work. It simply does not support enough piece of hardware to run as a working operating system.
My advice is, don’t try it out unless you really want to — then back up everything.
I always see Mac as a very good piece of OS and I always want to own one. I never thought of hardware issues.
“no CPU upgrades, less compatibility with external hardware”
How true is this?
For all of the things I’ve bought as external controllers — midi keyboard, printer, webcam — they came with drivers only for Windows XP, even printed on the cover of the CD. I’m guessing if I move to a Mac, these will be wasted.
