Possibly the greatest illusion generator would be the human brain. A large part of the brain serves as a biological basis for consciousness and awareness. This consciousness is so complex (as scientists haven’t found out much about it yet) that it needs to organize incoming information. Illusion is defined to be the process of this organization.
For every moment that the brain is alive, it’s trying to figure out a schemata to fit the world that it recognizes. In other words, the brain is collecting patterns of the world around it and tying them together to form “the bigger picture.” The purpose of this formation is so we can pull handy information from our brain without figuring out everything we perceive every time we do something — it’s for the benefit of our convenience.
However, the brain may not always be right. It creates false illusions all the time, as it over-generalizes the information it perceives (the more general a schemata, the more useful and widely applicable it is). Some common problems of this leads to prejudice of groups of people and objects.
Our consciousness lives in a world of stories told by the brain and its illusions. It would be interesting to see what this world seems like without a bias. My take would be that only babies could tell, if they could speak our language without becoming influenced.
