Because Opera 9.6 sucks. Simple as that. Why did I not do this sooner? Probably because I had too much hope for Opera with the legacy it has created. But why not go to the source of that legacy? Behold, Opera 9.27 on Vista, without crashing!

Let me say this once, but not for all, just to get the message on the grid. If only Firefox fanboys boisterously promote their godsend and Google up things such as:

Opera 9.6 Sucks

and present the proof to the developers, then perhaps it will have some impact on the Opera developers. I mean, did their company not upgrade to Vista yet? Is that why Opera 9.6 crashes so much on Vista? Because they have not mustered the budget to get a Vista machine to test Opera on? Well if that is the case, I’m telling you Opera is defected on Vista, horribly.

… on Vista = still FAIL.

For each version of Opera that comes out, I will continue giving tirades of vitriolic remarks on the shear disappointment it is inflicting, until it stop crashing on Vista. Vista is not as stable as XP, but that gives no excuse to Opera ASA to release software to accompany its instability. I mean c’mon Opera! What happened between 9.27 and 9.5? Did 9.6 just keep on using the same old bugs introduced to 9.5? Well apparently so. Fix it. Or go back to your 9.27 codebase. Otherwise Google Chrome sure is looking good with its speed. Who cares about giving up my privacy for a significant boost in speed?

And while I’m at it, Opera’s new campaign Discover Opera is one hell of a boring campaign. But I guess that is acceptable and intended as a conservative approach to the vista of the company, since the more people that flock to Opera, the more people will discover the heinous experience the new Opera is wreaking.

Digg is growing and I could see its pain in promoting new stories. Out of 40,000 submissions a day, which ones do you promote? I find that Digg’s recommendation engine solves two rather interesting problems:

People do not like sifting through 40,000 stories a day

People are submitting irrelevant things just to promote spam or perhaps just to stroke their ego if those stories are promoted to the front page

The recommendation engine is neat in that it solves both problems with one mechanism. The first is obvious — users get to read at what others digg, specifically from users that share similar interests.

The second problem is solved in the process of the first. If the trend is that users mostly look at recommended submissions, they first need to find affinity with diggers and submitters, and vice versa. Thus spammers have much reduced chance of hitting the front page unless they are actively engaging in a community and submitting relevant stories to the community. Out of band pages are indirectly barred receiving much attention. It still does not solve the problem of trolls, where stories praising Obama and slandering McCain abound the top stories list. But that is something diggers want to see and not inherently problematic. So the natural progression in the case of the recommendation engine is a virtuous one.

Now here is an interesting paradox. I am not a Digg user myself. I will submit / have submitted a story on this post. There are two outcomes:

It receives enough diggs and makes to the front page

It does not

If it does, then my theory is ultimately flawed, and thus should not have been worthy of being on the front page. If it does not reach the front page, my theory is (at least partially) true, and thus (partially) deserves to be on the front page. Fun thing to think about on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

I love Opera. I love Opera 9.27. I like Vista. I like Opera 9.27 on Vista.

I love Opera 9.5. I love Opera 9.5 on Windows XP. I hate Opera 9.5 on Windows Vista. It has prevailed to for unknown reasons crash ubiquitously quite a few times every day. I love Opera yet I live to suffer the distress inflicted by such an inharmonious upgrade. My ambivalence of devotion and contempt have led me to one opportune chance of switching from Windows Vista to Windows XP, just to use Opera 9.5 in peace.

You hear that, Opera Software ASA? I am willing to abide by your abounding unfulfilled promises by downgrading my operating system. I hope you realize that the ripples of actions reach beyond a browser experience.

On the other hand, I could pretentiously complain about Opera 9.5 and secretly use Opera 9.27 or Firefox 3. But what better ways to prove my fanboyism than to neglect the patent alternatives? My formidable fortitude and persistence will cling onto Opera like any Apple fanboy would defending Steve Job’s RDF even after the iPhone price drop. I will ignore all imparity and insidious disfigurement in the program that I am so amorously infatuated with, as any Firefox fanboy would deny and jubilate the total fiasco of Firefox 3 Download Day. I will, as would any die hard Apple fanboy, quell all inherent faults of my worship and disseminate mud slings at competitor products. I vow to embark on a journey crossing the Rubicon with the heavenly blessed Opera, as any Firefox user would promote his saviour or die trying.

Opera, release me from my misery and shambles. Set me free from your chains. Opera, please release Opera 10 with the once impeccable and auspicious performance you once so gratuitously bestowed upon my fortunate soul.

This is a blog post about a website called FileLime. It is one of the newest file uploading websites, among with all those slow ones with ads and what not. It has got a really neat feature - upload progress bar. If you are uploading a file of 30MB, you could see how it progresses instead of wait for 20 minutes to find that your internet has been disconnected.

The real reason I am writing about this is due to their blog contest for an iPod Touch. Anyone could write a blog entry of a minimum of 100 words about their website, and enter a draw for a free iPod Touch. International blogs welcome. And you know what, this has been more than 100 words, so I’ll stop here and let you enjoy the site.

So apparently this is no Gphone. Yesterday, Google announced that there would be an open source development platform for mobile devices — Android, a joined venture by the Open Handset Alliance.

I was hoping for some fancy phone that you could whip out and make iPhone users look like out-of-style douchebags. Well, now I at least hope cell phone vendors (Samsung, Motorola, Nokia, etc) would port this platform to existing cell phones.

While I’m at it, it does not seem like the Canadian Rogers Communications Corporation seems to buy in on the fact that people want relatively cheap service for viewing the web on their cell phones. For only $150 a month, users could get a premium bandwidth allowance of 25MB! We need some competition up here now that Rogers has all the GSM market.

More Gphone and Android information here.

Technically speaking, the day you should eat it is on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is the 15th day of the 8th month of each lunar year. I know I certainly do not have a calendar that calculates when that is, so here is a list of Mid-Autumn Festival dates for the next 11 years.

2007: September 25

2008: September 14

2009: October 3

2010: September 22

2016: September 15

2017: October 4

2018: September 24

If the whole 50 Cent and Kanye face off was not just a marketing scheme, Kanye would have collected with this album. I think, this time for sure, his album matched his ego and the hype. First off, the production is definitely some of the best of his work. For the lyrics, I cannot really say I give a crap. I’m mostly here for the music, and Graduation has reached my expectations.

And if you just cannot get enough of that Stronger song, the album version has an extended outro that is just perfect. The album really does grow on you the more you listen to it.

A Quick Review of 50 Cent’s Curtis

It sucked so much that I do not want to write about it. If I was Curtis, I would quit right now.

Other than the obvious drawing uses, it relaxes the shoulder. If you are working in front of a computer 8 hours a day and playing in front of your home computer for 5 more hours after work, you might consider a tablet to release some stress on that right shoulder of yours.

I have had shoulder problems for years now, which is considerably long for how young I am. I can at will crack my shoulder joint multiple times, thanks to the awkward position in which a computer mouse puts me. With a tablet however, I could tilt back, put my arms down, and relax while clicking on whatever I was doing before.

I would even go as far as putting up a Chitika ad up here if I had signed up already, or perhaps an Amazon link to one of these amazing piece of hardware, to make up for the expensive tablet I paid for. But hey guess what? It was only $100, which is very justified compared to a $100 Logitech MX Revolution. So the next time you think that tablets are hilariously expensive, remember — they are, except the expensive mouse you purchased or are about to purchase is not any better at all.
